Clothesline Art Sale returns this Sunday

By Staff | Mar 15, 2011

This Sunday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Sanibel Captiva Art League will hold its annual Clothesline Art Sale at the Sanibel Community House, located at 2173 Periwinkle Way. There is no admission fee.

This is a very popular and well-attended event on the island for a number of reasons. The great majority of the art is original, and prices are most often heavily discounted.

“Often the art pieces are small or not really suited for shows or galleries in the artist’s mind; there are many reasons for the artist to be discounting his or her work,” said Peter Zell, president of the Art League. “An equally creative buyer can find a way to crop, frame or present a piece.”

There will be close to 30 participating artists whose work outside is actually hung from wires strung between posts, and set out in rows for easy circulation for the public, with bins holding additional work. Artists are also located inside the Community House. The artists are usually seated at or near their stations and look forward to meeting the public to answer any questions. Some of the participating artists are nationally known.

“This is a great opportunity for visitors to obtain good art work at a good price, talk to the artist about it all, and enjoy an outdoor day on beautiful Sanibel,” added Zell.
