Poetic License: Uploading Carmella

By Staff | Mar 9, 2011

My Internet Explorer crashes again

And Carmella, my three year old granddaughter

Pops up on the screen saver, flashing a smile

Meant to seduce her grandfather’s crusty heart,

Lure him away from his quirky quest for

Lyrics to “I Love My Wife, But Oh You Kid,”

An online search inspired by e-mailed photos of

Five newborn goats grazing in the backyard

Behind my daughter’s home in Bethlehem.

On Picasa I replay my download,

“I Love You Poppa Joe,” her first words to me,

Tinkled in Arabic-scented English,

Then from my QWERTY keyboard I upload —

“I Love My Wife But Oh You Grandkid!”
