Sanibel Police Department issues heavy traffic alert for weekend

Sanibel Chief of Police Bill Tomlinson has issued a “Heavy Traffic Advisory” for Thursday, March 3rd, Friday, March 4th and Saturday, March 5th.

Heavy traffic is anticipated along Periwinkle Way from Casa Ybel Road to Tarpon Bay Road due to 74th Annual Shell Fair and Show being held at the Sanibel Community Association located at 2173 Periwinkle Way. Heavy traffic is anticipated along Periwinkle Way from Casa Ybel Road to Tarpon Bay Road.

Chief Tomlinson reminds residents that the City of Sanibel is a walkable and bikeable community that features one of the most extensive shared use paths in the State of Florida. The Chief urges attendees to these special events to walk or bicycle if possible. Motorists not attending these events are strongly urged to utilize alternate routes this weekend.

Additionally, the Chief reminds Sanibel motorists to be especially alert for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the roadway in the area of the events and should expect delays. Please plan your travel accordingly.
