Wine & Chocolate Tasting paired with film on Feb. 14

By Staff | Feb 9, 2011

The BIG ARTS Film Society invites all “Fred and Ginger” fans to a special reception and classic film this Monday, Feb. 14 to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The Pre-Film Wine & Chocolate Tasting is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Gainer Veranda. The $15 ticket includes reception and film, “Swing Time,” and tickets must be purchased in advance.

The Depression era’s “Swing Time” epitomizes the jazz-age style of 1930’s musicals with graceful joie de vivre, and is often named the best film of famous dancing duo Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. They dance and act flawlessly together in some of the most elegant dance sequences ever filmed, each regarded as masterpieces of their kind. The film’s exquisite Jerome Kern ballad, “The Way You Look Tonight,” won 1936 Academy Award for Best Song.

Wines and chocolates supplied by Bailey’s General Store.

Post-film discussion will be led by “two veterans from the Broadway dance world” — Marsha Wagner and Bobby Logue. Logue is Resident Stage and House Manager at BIG ARTS Strauss Theater. Wagner teaches Pilates at BIG ARTS.

Enhanced by surround sound, film will be shown in the comfort of Schein Performance Hall, with a high-definition projection system and large screen to provide a superb cinematic presentation. Listening devices are available for the hearing impaired.

General Admission (film only) is $7; the film begins at 7 p.m.

BIG ARTS Film Series is supported by Patron Series Sponsor Bank Of The Islands, Associate Supporters The Royal Shell Companies and The Sanibel Bean, as well as Supporters Jerry’s Foods of Sanibel, Sanibel Deli & Coffee Factory, and Sanibel Taxi.
