The Sanibel-Captiva chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will host their fifth annual Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament on Friday, Jan. 28, at the Sanibel Community House.

“The purpose of this event is to raise funds for educational scholarships for young women and girls in the community,” said event organizer Lisa Newmeyer-Cochrane. “The fundraiser is a lot of fun and everybody looks forward to it.”

Registration for the event begins at 5 p.m. and the tournament — and blackjack tables, Newmeyer-Cochrane added — will begin at 5:30.

“There will also be a lot of good food and lots of good prizes,” Newmeyer-Cochrane said, noting that the first place prize in the tournament is valued at $1,000.

The tournament entry fee is $100 and includes food and two drinks and Newmeyer-Cochrane said that walk-ins are welcome. There is a limit of 80 people, so Newmeyer-Cochrane recommends advanced registration.

For those that can’t make it to the big event, the ABWA accepts check donations, payable to:

All donations will benefit the ABWA’s education fund.
