All Island Glass sinks Bombers in softball league action
The All Island Glass softball team sent a torpedo to the Bay to Beach Bombers in dramatic fashion last Wednesday night to get their first win of the season.
At one point, All Island held a 4 run lead until the Bombers launched a series of scud missiles to take control of the game by the top of the seventh. All the Bombers had to do now was close out the bottom of the inning to win.
As the Bombers set their scope to make the fatal blow they found Jeff Weigel staring down at them from the other end. Weigel promptly drove in the tying and winning runs to get his team their first win.
“We finally kicked some Glass,” Weigel said.
The final score: Glass 18, Bombers 17
In the second game of the evening, the Sanibel Grill once again slow-broiled Williams and Williams, 21-12. With this victory, the Sanibel Grill clinched the number one seed for the postseason tournament.
The other three seeds are still up for grabs between Sanctuary Island Electric, Williams and Williams and Bay to Beach Bombers. Electric with a win could have clinched the number two seed, but Aztec Plumbing put a wrench into those plans in the final game of the evening last Wednesday.
Aztec Plumbing took an early five run lead, only to see it swirl away as Sanctuary Electric’s offense lit up like a Christmas light.
“Our goal was to make a comeback, one light bulb at a time,” said Electric’s captain Bryan Hayes.
But don’t doubt the drain! Aztec Plumbing made a late bottom of the seventh, three run rally to flush away their opponents in a stunning 14-13 win.
There is only one week left of the regular season before the tournament begins that will determine this season’s champion. Good luck to everyone!
