Sanctuary Island Electric stuns Sanibel Grill in softball showdown
Sanctuary Island Electric did what no other softball team has been able to do last Wednesday night–they defeated the reigning champions the Sanibel Grill. It was an electrifying game, with a combined 57 runs scored. This is the first game Sanibel Grill has lost in its last 13 games, dating back to March 2010.
Despite getting an early eight-run lead, directed by the heavy batting of Mark Childers, the Sanibel Grill couldn’t keep the cooker on high. Sanctuary Island Electric started a little slow, but once the batteries charged up, energy coursed through their circuits. They inched ahead by a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
It looked like it wasn’t going to be enough though as the Sanibel Grill recaptured a narrow one run lead in the sixth inning at a score of 28-27. Finally in the bottom of the seventh, Sanctuary Electric made a final two-run surge to win in a major upset. Final score: Sanctuary Island Electric 29, Sanibel Grill 28
In the other games of the evening, Aztec Plumbing took the plunger to All Island Glass in a swirling victory. Led by chieftan Mike Fuchs, the Aztec Plumbing Warriors scalped a 29-21 win.
“We quenched the thirst of our bats with the blood of our enemies,” the Aztec’s said.
And in the final game, Williams and Williams delivered a blast to the Bay to Beach Bombers with a 16-14 win. It was a sweet success for the Williams team, who lost in the last meeting with the Bombers, 26-11.
