Slaw Dog Invitational to benefit real estate scholarship at FGCU
This year, the Slaw Dog Invitational — now in its 14th year — will take on a new name. The Paul Sands Memorial Slaw Dog Invitational, to be held Thursday, Dec. 16, is an invitation-only golf tournament that will benefit the Paul Sands Memorial Scholarship Fund that was set up earlier this year following the death of Paul Sands, former senior advisor of The Sands Commercial Group at VIP Realty – Commercial.
“We are honored the Slaw Dog Invitational has chosen a cause dear to Paul and his loved ones,” said Lisa Sands, Paul’s former wife and business partner. “The proceeds from this tournament will help provide a scholarship to someone aspiring to follow in Paul’s footsteps.”
The Paul Sands Memorial Scholarship Fund was set up with the goal of raising $10,000 within 12 months for a scholarship to be awarded to a Florida Gulf Coast University student with intentions of pursuing a career in commercial real estate.
Sands, who was the senior advisor of The Sands Commercial Group at VIP Realty, Commercial, was a longtime member of REIS and served on its board of governors.
The Paul Sands Scholarship Fund is part of the REIS Scholarship Foundation, a not-for-profit, registered 501(c)3 corporation. REIS manages the Foundation, allowing 100 percent of donations to be awarded as scholarships.
Although the golf tournament is not open to the public, anyone can donate to this fund. Donations to the Paul Sands Scholarship Fund may be made payable to REIS Scholarship Foundation, Inc. and mailed to REIS Scholarship Chairman Shelton Weeks, PhD, Real Estate Investment Society, P.O. Box 9247, Fort Myers, FL 33902-9247. “Paul Sands Scholarship” should be noted on the check.
