Miracle to open 2011 home schedule vs. Hammerheads

The Fort Myers Miracle open their 20th season in Southwest Florida in Jupiter on Thursday, April 7. The Miracle debut at Hammond Stadium on Saturday, Apri 19 hosting the Hammerheads at 7:05 p.m. There will be special pre-game activities and ceremonies with a spectacular post-game fireworks show.

The 2011 campaign will feature a new non-fireworks Saturday first pitch time, the return of a popular summertime event and the unveiling of a new logo and uniforms.

“We are eagerly anticipating the upcoming season of baseball here in Southwest Florida,” Miracle General Manager Steve Gliner said last week. “Our schedule allows us to continue to create that buzz around the ballpark that is synonymous with Miracle Baseball.”

Six fireworks shows light up the schedule, including two on Independence Day Weekend and a new non-fireworks Saturday night start time of 6:05 p.m.

“We pride ourselves on delivering the best fireworks shows in Southwest Florida and that will always be a staple of Miracle Baseball. The new non-fireworks Saturday night start time allows our fans to enjoy a night at Hammond Stadium and to get home a little earlier,” added Gliner.

Hammond Stadium will turn into a large water park for kids on July 27, with the return of Big Splash. First pitch will be at 12:05 p.m.

The Miracle’s schedule is a split season schedule consisting of 140 games, with two 70 game halves. The league’s annual All-Star Game will be played in Clearwater on Saturday, June 18, with the regular season concluding on Sunday, Sept. 4 at Jupiter.

The Miracle will play 11 home games in April, 17 in May, 13 in June, 13 in July, 14 in August and 2 in September. The schedule features 14 Thursday games, 11 Friday dates, and 10 action-packed Saturday night games.

Some highlights include:

• Six post-game fireworks shows — April 9, May 28, July 1, July 3, July 30 and Sept. 2.

• Education Day – May 11 (10:35 a.m. start)

• Business Person Special – April 13 (12:05 p.m. start)

The entire 2011 promotional and giveaway schedule will be released at a later date. Many of the traditional promotions such as Two-For-One Tuesday, Thirsty Thursday and Happy Hour Friday will return along with giveaways and live entertainment. Miracle fans can also plan on seeing new and exciting promotions throughout the upcoming season.

The Miracle will play Jupiter 20 times and face the other five clubs in the South Division 18 times. The Miracle will face teams in the North Division eight times apiece.

The Miracle and Charlotte Stone Crabs renew their rivalry for the first time on Saturday, April 23 at Hammond Stadium. The two teams meet 18 times during the regular season.

The Florida State League is comprised of 12 teams divided into two divisions: the North and South. The Miracle, affiliated with the Minnesota Twins, compete in the South Division along with the Bradenton Marauders (Pittsburgh Pirates), Charlotte Stone Crabs (Tampa Bay Rays), Jupiter Hammerheads (Florida Marlins), Palm Beach Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) and St. Lucie Mets (New York Mets).

The North Division consists of the Brevard County Manatees (Milwaukee Brewers), Clearwater Threshers (Philadelphia Phillies), Daytona Cubs (Chicago Cubs), Dunedin Blue Jays (Toronto Blue Jays), Lakeland Flying Tigers (Detroit Tigers) and Tampa Yankees (New York Yankees).

Manager Jake Mauer and the entire coaching staff returns for a second season together.

Start times for games at Hammond Stadium in 2011 are 7:05 p.m. for games Monday through Friday and all fireworks dates. Non-fireworks Saturday games will begin at 6:05 p.m. with Sunday games beginning at 1:05 p.m.
