On Tuesday, Nov. 23, renowned Captiva artist Stella Farwell will give a special presentation at the Captiva Island Yacht Club in the hopes of raising awareness for one of the deadliest — and most difficult to diagnose — diseases: ovarian cancer.

“I’ve become a one-person campaign,” Farwell said. “But I’m not trying to collect funds, I’m trying to raise awareness.”

Farwell’s presentation will last about a half and hour.

“Although it’s a very scary subject, this is an upbeat presentation about my ovarian cancer journey and my art,” said Farwell. “It’s a scary disease and it’s known as a silent killer because it’s so hard to detect. But if I can help at least one person not take that journey, it’s worth it.”

After the program, which begins at noon, Farwell will answer questions and invite attendees to share their personal stories.

Farwell’s presentation, which includes a 10-minute DVD, is free and open to the public, but reservations are required to attend. There will be an optional lunch that follows. Those wishing to stay for lunch have their choice of entree, each $15:

• Bistro Salad with Grilled Salmon: Fresh Greens with Sundried Tomatoes, Roasted Portabella Mushrooms, Gorgonzola and Toasted Pine Nuts with House Balsamic Dressing

• Grilled Chicken Sandwich — Marinated Grilled Chicken with Swiss Cheese, Crisp Bacon, and Dijon Aioli on a soft toasted bun, accompanied by fresh fruit

Dessert is Chocolate Éclair.

To make reservations, call 472-4133.

The Captiva Island Yacht Club is located at 15903 Captiva Drive.
