SSIR to host Second Annual ‘Run For Reading Weekend’

By Staff | Oct 6, 2010

Literacy Volunteers of Lee County (LVLC) announced last week that their Second Annual “Run For Reading Weekend” will be held Oct. 22-24 at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva.

The event will feature the “Splash Bash” Pre-Race Mixer on Friday, Oct. 22, with the 5k Run/Walk being held on Saturday and the Run for Reading Aquathlon will be held on Sunday. Both events begin at 8:30 a.m. and this weekend of family fun and fitness is open to guests of the resort and the registered participants.

Both races take participants across South Seas Island Resort, a wildlife sanctuary located on Captiva. The 5K Run/Walk will be held on historic Plantation Road and the Aqualthlon (for athletes 16 and older) includes a two mile run, a 1K swim in the Gulf of Mexico and a 1.5 mile run to the finish line. South Seas Island Resort is the only location in Southwest Florida that can offer an Aqualthlon race.

“We’re thrilled to once again host Run for Reading, “said South Seas Island Resort Managing Director Rick Hayduk. “This highly-attended event not only benefits a great local cause but also allows families and participants to experience the natural surroundings of South Seas.”

Entry fees are $25 for the Run/Walk and $40 for both races per person. All participants will also be invited to attend the “Splash Bash” reception being held on Friday evening.

In addition, South Seas Island Resort is offering special room rates beginning at just $125 per night. For reservations, call 1-800-CAPTIVA and request the “Run For Reading” rate or visit www.southseas.com/runforreading.

Race participants should register online at www.ACTIVE.com. Proceeds from this event will benefit the LVLC’s adult literacy program and the event sponsors include IMA (Internal Medicine Associates) and South Seas Island Resort.
