American Business Women’s Association to meet next week
The Sanibel-Captiva Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) invites all members and guests to the monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
The meeting will be held at the Sanibel Community House, located at 2173 Periwinkle Way. Networking begins at 5:30 p.m., and the dinner/meeting begins at 6 p.m..
Dr. James Martin, PH.D, is the September meeting presenter. He is the new Lee Campus President at Edison State College. Dr. Martin has many years of attributes and skills he will be bringing to the College. He is a long standing professional in higher education with a true dedication to student success.
Edison State College is Southwest Florida’s largest, most established, accessible and affordable school of higher education serving more than 20,000 students in five counties with campuses in Lee, Collier and Charlotte.
Dr. Martin’s basic philosophy is that education is the best hope for this nation.
“It should receive the highest priority of financial support and results accountability. A nation of uneducated citizens, is a nation that will not progress," said Dr. Martin, who believes it should be available to everyone, regardless of socio-economic foundation.
Dr. Martin has a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Bowling Green State University, a Master of Education Degree from University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Carolina University. In the past, he has volunteered with Covenant Hospice Inc., Northwest Florida Blood Center, Manna Food Pantries and as a public speaker.
To secure your reservation to be a part of this enjoyable evening, please RSVP to Gayle DeHaan-Garland by e-mail (godehaan@comcast.net) or call 239-565-7872 by Sept. 10. The cost of the dinner is $20.
The ABWA, which meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Sanibel Community House, focuses on bringing together women of professional and business interests to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition. The purpose of the networking time prior to the start of the meeting is to build networking skills and provide business enhancing opportunities for Sanibel and Captiva business women.
