City prepares for switch in solid waste services

By Staff | Sep 6, 2010

Effective Oct. 1, 2010, Veolia Environmental Services will be the City of Sanibel’s franchised solid waste hauler.

Residential customers will see no change in collection days or service levels, but will be assessed on their annual property tax bill for the service rather than receive a quarterly invoice from the hauler.

All commercial customers need to contact the Veolia Customer Service Department at 239-334-1224 to execute a Customer Service Agreement prior to Sept. 25, 2010 to avoid disruption of service.

Lee County’s change to single stream recycling will not impact the city’s current use of the 18-gallon recycling bins or what materials can be placed in the bins. All customers are reminded that waste must be properly prepared for pickup.

For the waste preparation requirements, questions regarding the transition to the new hauler, or any other solid waste issues, please contact the City’s Public Works Department at 472-6397.
