McFlat’s Invitational to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities
Redfish, beware! The McFlat’s Invitational Redfish Challenge, which benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Southwest Florida, is coming back for its sixth year on Sept. 3 and 4.
The event kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, with dinner, an open bar, live music, raffle and Texas Hold Em’ poker tournament. The fishing tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, and continues through 4 p.m. Dinner, an awards banquet, live music from Strange Arrangement and a raffle wrap up the event that evening. Raffle participants will have the chance to win a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
A children’s fishing tournament from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday will highlight the event. Ronald McDonald® will be on hand to cheer the children on, and the first 100 children to pre-register will receive lunch with Ronald, a fishing rod, t-shirt and trophy.
All net proceeds from the event will benefit RMHC of Southwest Florida. Since 1996, more than 2,000 families from Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Glades and Hendry counties, as well as other states and countries, have found a home away from home at The Ronald McDonald House in Fort Myers while their children are undergoing medical treatment.
Additional thousands are served by The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile and by grants and scholarships awarded to deserving individuals and organizations in the five-county region.
The event’s co-chairpersons are Tim Frederic, a second-generation owner-operator of six McDonald’s restaurants in Cape Coral and Fort Myers and RMHC advisory council member; Jeff Miloff, a partner of Miloff Aubuchon Realty and RMHC board member; and Mitch Williamson, owner of Screenprint Plus, who once stayed at The Ronald McDonald House when his son was born premature.
“The McFlat’s Invitational is sure to be a great time for families and anyone interested in fishing,” said Frederic. “Better, yet, it supports families in need at The Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Florida.”
In its first five years, the McFlat’s Invitational raised $150,000 for RHMC of Southwest Florida. The organizers’ goal is to raise $40,000 this year.
“We are so grateful to Tim, Jeff and Mitch for coordinating the McFlat’s Invitational, the event’s sponsors and everyone who plans to come out and participate,” said Laura Ragain, executive director of RMHC of Southwest Florida. “Funds raised from this event will be used to continue our mission to find, create and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children in our five-county region.”
Registration is $275 per angler prior to Aug. 28, and $325 per angler thereafter. To register, visit www.mcflatsinvitational.com. For more information, contact Tim Frederic at 239-822-2728 or Mitch Williamson at 239-549-3322, ext. 105.
