Red mangrove plantings in September

By Staff | Aug 17, 2010

The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) is having a red mangrove planting on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10 and 11.

Participants should meet at the SCCF Marine Lab at Tarpon Bay beginning 9 a.m. for a facility tour and instructions on what to look for when collecting red mangrove propagules. Volunteers will paddle into Clam Bayou, located on the west end of Sanibel Island, and wade into the water to plant red mangroves. We encourage volunteers to bring kayaks if they have them.

Interested participants must register prior to the event and should contact Sabrina Lartz at 395-4617 or e-mail her at slartz@sccf.org.
