By Staff | Jul 23, 2010

The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for the Southwest Florida coast as far north as Englewood due to Tropical Storm Bonnie. A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere in the warning area within 36 hours.

Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate in our area as today progresses. Rainfall is expected to accumulate 2 to 4 inches with isolated maximum amounts of 5 to 6 inches. Storm surge could raise coastal water levels by 1 to 2 feet.

Tropical Storm Bonnie is moving toward the West-Northwest near 18 mph.  Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is possible during the next 48 hours.

The City of Sanibel strongly urges all residents, business owners, and visitors to continue to monitor Tropical Storm Bonnie and take the necessary precautionary actions to ensure your safety and protect your property.
