Legendary golf course architect Arthur Hills, left, and Kyle Sweet, The Sanctuary's Golf Course Superintendent, touring the course in late May for their 2010 course review.

Arthur Hills, a world renowned golf course architect, recently completed a comprehensive design review of his ‘island masterpiece’ — The Sanctuary Golf Club.

For many years, The Sanctuary membership, combined with Director of Golf Ed Lockard and Golf Course Superintendent Kyle Sweet, have completed an annual review of the course playability and aesthetics. Each year, this review has been followed up with a course tour by Arthur Hills or design firm associates.

The result of this collaboration has been continual updating of course design features and the improvement of course playability while maintaining the integrity of Arthur Hills’ design.

“I began meeting with Art Hills nearly 13 years ago and the relationship the Club has kept with him over the years has proven to keep The Sanctuary Golf Club as one of Southwest Florida’s finest golf courses” said Sweet.

“The Sanctuary Country Club has for years been a special course," said Hills. "Its Sanibel location has from its beginning created a very private aura. I admire how the Club has continued to take good care of the course and from time to time has, working with us, made refinements. The result is that the course is today at its best!  It is a beautiful place to live and to play golf."
