Island Wok to feature Chinese food

By Staff | Jun 10, 2010

The days of craving Chinese food but having no way to satiate it on island is no more.

Starting Monday, June 14 island residents and visitors will have the chance to get Chinese food at Island Wok located at 2497 Palm Ridge Road on Sanibel. The Chinese takeout style business is located within the Island pizza restaurant.

Executive Chef Melissa Talmage, owner of the new Island Wok, Island Pizza and Sweet Melissa’s Cafe on Periwinkle Way decided to open a Chinese food business to meet the local demand.

The queries for Chinese food on island got things cooking with Talmage.

“Sometimes you just don’t want to go off the island,” she said.

Talmage said one of her cooks’ John Plantefaber is well aquainted with Asian style cuisine and will be preparing the Chinese food.

Popular Chinese food items such as wonton soup, egg rolls veggie and pork dumplings and sweet and sour pork, chicken or shrimp will be on the menu. Also available will be General Tso’s chicken – a spicier dish and chicken or shrimp with black bean sauce.

“We’re starting small just to see how it goes,” Talmage said.

Talmage will be seeking input from customers about the Chinese food. The feedback will help her in choosing future Chinese food selections for the menu.

Island Wok will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. For more information, or to order call 472-3010.
