Sanibel Little League celebrates another successful season with Jamboree
The 2010 Sanibel Little League culminated the season with a Jamboree on Saturday, May 15.
A Home Run Derby, pitching contest and running competition was held for each age division with prizes going to the top three finalists. A total of 170 island kids, ages 4 through 14, played baseball, softball and T-ball this spring.
The kids received their trophies from a Sanibelean and retired Major League Baseball player Jim Sprankle. Jim played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and was donning his World Series Championship ring from 1955, which was the only year the Dodgers beat the Yankees.
Although many of the youngsters had not heard of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Sprankle gave them some great advice when he told the kids, "Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do anything in life." He also told the kids that sports are a great part of life because players learn to work with each other as a team, and they learn about winning and losing.
