Zonta says ‘Save The Date’ for 10th Annual ‘Peek at the Unique’
The Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva is asking islanders to save the date of Saturday, March 12, 2011: this marks Zonta’s 10th Annual “A Peek at the Unique” home tour, the club’s signature fund raiser and an island favorite, and the fun is already under way.
The 2011 leadership team is in place and is setting ambitious goals.
“The basic formula will be the same — rare and unusual island homes, a fun-filled bus ride with knowledgeable guides, and food to savor from your favorite island restaurants and caterers," team member Orlene Shimberg commented. "For this celebratory year, the team is planning innovations to add sparkle to the event and, hopefully, to increase our revenues.”
As always, she said, the club appreciates the phenomenal support from the community for this event and for the programs in which the club participates.
Proceeds from each Peek are distributed to local non-profits, including island organizations, to help fund programs that enhance the status of women, and to Zonta International for its global initiatives.
In the decade since the event was launched, the club has built an enviable record of success. Each year, seats on the air-conditioned buses sell out more quickly. Proceeds have more than quadrupled over the years from $15,000 in 2002 to almost $70,000 in 2010.
The original concept of transporting guests on a guided tour of four island homes has expanded with the addition of sponsor opportunities, advertising in the keepsake program book, “Peek Perk” discount coupons, a traditional raffle (Chance at the Unique) offering exciting prizes and the No-Peek Auction in which participants submit bids for each item without knowing the other bids.
The leadership team of Nancy Dreher, Gini Jones, Orlene Shimberg and Carolyn Swiney invite you to “Save The Date” — Saturday, March 12, 2011 — and to watch for further announcements.
The Zonta Club of Sanibel/Captiva is a service organization of professional women working together to provide hands-on assistance, advocacy and funds to strengthen women’s lives on the islands, in Lee County and around the world through Zonta International.
