BIG ARTS supporter John Boler wins Angel award

John Boler, a BIG ARTS donor and supporter, received the 2010 Angel of the Arts Awards for his generosity and support of the arts, on Monday night at the Alliance for the Arts Angel of the Arts Awards event in Fort Myers.

John Boler, a long-time donor and supporter of BIG ARTS, was named Arts

Benefactor of the Year in the 2010 Angel of the Arts Awards competition. Boler accepted his Angel award at the Alliance For the Arts annual awards

dinner and ceremony held on Monday night in Fort Myers.

Boler, a part-time Sanibel resident who has poured many funds into BIG ARTS, recently donated $1 million dollars to make it possible for BIG ARTS and the Herb Strauss Schoolhouse Theater to merge as one organization.

He and Schoolhouse Theater Foundation board president Steve Klug, who donatedan additional $500,000 to the merger, are working together to keep live theater alive and thriving on the island. Their gifts will help ensure perpetuity for the theater as well strengthen BIG ARTS.

“It’s well deserved recognition,” said Chuck Bonser, president of the BIG ARTS Board of Directors. “He’s just a great philanthropist and a great human being.”
