Southwest Florida International Airport reports March traffic

During the month of March, 996,951 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 1.2 percent compared to March 2009. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is down 1.75 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in March was Delta with 224,325 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were AirTran (167,424), JetBlue (125,292), US Airways (98,154) and Southwest (92,321).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 9,794 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 3.4 percent compared to March 2009. Page Field General Aviation Airport saw 7,467 movements, an increase of 2.65 percent from March 2009. In addition, nearly 3.3 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in March 2010.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.4 million passengers in 2009 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.
