William Hershel Bennett passed away on April 13, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in 1937, Bill was the proud son of William and Bertha Bennett. He was raised in Highland, Ind. and attended Purdue University. He owned of Hersh Benet Engraving in Hammond Ind., was a 20-year owner/CEO of Masterwork, Inc. in Chicago, and owner/CEO of ABG Packaging Corp. in Rockford, Ill.
In addition, he was a member of First United Methodist Church, Indiana NW Region SCCA, Chicago Yacht Club and Anchorage Yacht Club.
Bill enjoyed living simultaneously in Hammond, Ind., Holland Mich., Sanibel and Chicago, and will be missed by many personal and business friends in these communities.
He was the beloved husband and best friend of Sandra (nee Duffy) for 48 years; a devoted father to Lynn Kapp and her husband, Jeffrey, and Will and Jim Bennett; the cherished grandfather of Jeffrey Bennett Kapp; loving brother of Robert Bennett and his wife Lanen. Dearly loved in-laws include Kathy (Fred) Schomaker, Bo (Jean) Duffy, Karen Phelps and nieces and nephews – Doug Schomaker, Kelly (Marto) Bonglorna, Tim (Bette Anne) Duffy, Roberta (Peter) Jennings, Kristine and Lori Phelps, John, Robert and Brooks Bennett.
He will be remembered for his generosity and kindness throughout his life. We choose not to mourn his death, but celebrate his life at an event to be held at a later date. Bill’s favorite charity was Smile Train and memorial donations may be made to www.smiletrain.com.
