SPECIAL TO THE BREEZE, email@example.com
Cape Coral police arrested three teenagers after they stopped a bicyclist, struck him in the face and stole his bicycle Thursday night.
Eric Anthony Day, 15, Timothy Ortiz, 13, and Ronnie Lee Sheppard, 13, all of Fort Myers, were charged with robbery.
At 11 p.m., officers responded to a 911 robbery call in the 2300 block of Del Prado Boulevard South. According to the 38-year-old male victim, he was riding his bicycle southbound on Del Prado when someone called out to him from behind. He turned and saw three male subjects running in his direction.
Day motioned for the man to stop, and he slowed believing the males needed assistance. Once he stopped, Day struck him in the head, grabbed his bicycle and headed southbound on Del Prado with the other two teens.
As the man ran to the nearest gas station, he saw the three teens behind the station without his bicycle. He confronted the teens but decided to ask for the assistance of a passerby and called 911 when it appeared one of the teens wanted to fight him.
Police provided descriptions of the teens to Communications and three boys matching the descriptions were located walking eastbound in the 1900 block of Veterans Parkway. The man positively identified the three as the teens who attacked him and stole his bike.
The man suffered a contusion to the left side of his face. The bicycle was recovered.
When questioned, all three teens denied being involved in the incident. They were taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
