Sanibel Grill Rec’N’Crew demolishes Bailey’s Baggers

By Staff | Apr 9, 2010

The Sanibel Grill Rec’N’Crew got sweet revenge last Thursday night in a narrow win over Bailey’s Baggers. The last time these two teams met Bailey’s eliminated the Rec’N’Crew from the postseason tournament in a major upset.

The road to victory for the Crew was an uphill climb the whole way. The Sanibel Grill trailed Bailey’s right up until the end of the game, at one point by as many as six runs. Finally, in the bottom of the sixth, the Sanibel Grill put on the charcoal and lit it up with three runs to take the clinching 10-9 lead. Sanibel Grill captain Luke Sweeney said, “We roasted them alive! How do you like your Bailey’s-with pickles and ketchup?”

The other games this week were not so climactic. The Lazy Flamingo made a lot of ‘flocking’ mistakes against Sanctuary Island Electric leading to a 24-8 loss, the Great White Grill put on a sizzling win over All Island Glass 22-7, and Royal Shell looked fossilized with a 26-7 loss to the Aztec Plumbing Warriors.

The Sanibel Adult Softball League plays every Wednesday and Thursday night at the Sanibel Ball Fields. For more information, contact the Recreation Center 472-0345.
