McKee appointed director of area sales for LXR

By Staff | Apr 8, 2010

Jason McKee was recently appointed as the new director of area sales for South Seas Island Resort and Sundial Beach & Golf Club on Sanibel.

South Seas Island Resort and Sanibel’s Sundial Beach & Golf Resort have announced the appointment of hospitality veteran Jason McKee as the new director of area sales, a position responsible for garnering group business for both island properties managed by LXR Luxury Resorts.

“I’m really excited about redefining our customer base. We have the leisure traveler and the individual families, and they understand and really appreciate what South Seas offers – but my goal is to educate companies, meeting planners and other business associates to be able to take their groups and bring them to South Seas and really experience it and share it with their employees,” McKee said.

“Jason brings the experience needed to make LXR San-Cap properties the first option when companies are considering holding a meeting at a resort destination. Both South Seas and Sundial offer such unique experiences for the corporate guest and provide the ability to hold productive meetings while enjoying the benefit of bringing family to balance the work/life ratio,” said Rick Hayduk, managing director of South Seas Island Resort, and David Shepherd, general manager of Sundial Beach & Golf Resort in a joint statement.

McKee will soon be entering his sixth week of work at South Seas, and already, he’s seized upon the unique duality of the resort.

“The best way to describe South Seas is that it’s kind of a tale of two villages – you have the south end, which is more shopping-oriented and more crowded, and the further you get away from the south end, the closer you get to nature. The transformation is amazing from one end to the other. That’s the charm of South Seas. It’s such a great property,” he said.

McKee grew up in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina with majors in German and Business Marketing. He then continued his studies at the University of Bamberg in Germany and traveled extensively through Europe and Asia before beginning his career.

McKee has more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He began his career as the pre-opening sales manager for Candlewood Hotels where he opened 32 hotels in 14 cities.

“You name a city, I’ve probably lived there,” McKee said with a laugh.

When McKee was recruited by LXR Luxury Resorts and Hotels, he moved to Cocoa Beach, Fla. and worked with Hilton Hotels for four years, focusing on group sales with aerospace companies including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics and ATK.

But aside from his stellar resume, McKee is also a family man.

His wife Denise is a professional photographer specializing in lifestyle beach photography and they have a five-year-old, a three-year-old and a two-year-old.

McKee says Captiva and Sanibel will be the perfect place for he and his wife to raise their three children.

“They all love the beach, the island and being outdoors. This is going to be a great place for us to live. Captiva is beautiful, quiet – it has a charm to it. It’s a hidden gem that really nobody knows about. I came down about four months ago with my wife and we just fell in love with it. We’re going to move on island and we’re looking for homes on Sanibel right now. We know this is going to be a great place to raise our kids.”
