Final South Cape Street Market of season Saturday

By Staff | Mar 31, 2010

Saturday marks the final South Cape Street Market of the season, bringing to close the second year of this successful and popular event.
The final street market will feature 70 vendors offering a wide variety of items, including beautiful antiques, original artworks, handcrafted gifts and upscale collectible pieces.
There will be plenty of jewelry, too, with handcrafted, nickel free and vintage styles available to buy.
Community Redevelopment Agency Public Relations Manager Helen Ramey said people should make it a point to attend the last street market of the season, either to experience for the first time or experience the unique event again, especially if you’re looking for a bargain.
“It’s the last one of the season and all the vendors will be there,” she said. “I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of good deals.”
The last street market of the season will also have some special events.
The Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral is hosting a Kid’s Zone from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring face painting, balloon sculpting, a clown and more.
The Cape Dog Bakery will also be hosting an Easter Weekend edition of its Halloween costume contest.
Cape Dog Bakery owner Anita Simmons said the bakery participates in the street market and people always bring their dogs.
It was only natural, she said, to have the costume contest, as attendees are having good time and meeting new and old friends.
“It’s a nice little community,” Simmons said of the street market. “You know all the vendors and you always meet people, or you’re catching up with people you haven’t seen in a while.”
Registration for the costume contest begins at 9 a.m., and judging begins promptly at 10 a.m.
The Cape Dog Bakery will be collecting food and monetary donations for the Lee County Animal Services Pet Pantry, and the Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral will also have a food drive on site, collecting food that will stay in the Cape.
The South Cape Street Market runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Vincennes Boulevard, south of Southeast 46th Lane.
Admission is free, and parking is available at a number of locations, including the Big John Plaza, Iguana Mia and Club Square.
