Strout’s appearance closes 2010 Author Series at SPL
The Sanibel Public Library hosted “An Evening with Elizabeth Strout” on March 11. The author spoke to a full house on the importance of libraries and discussed how her life has impacted her writing and various characters in her books. The discussion was followed by a champagne reception, complete with musicians.
Strout is the 2009 Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction for her work “Olive Kitteridge” (2008). Her book “Abide With Me” (2006) became a national bestseller and a Book Sense pick.
In addition, Strout was awarded the Los Angeles Times Art Seidenbaum Award for first fiction and the Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize for her book “Amy and Isabelle” (1999). Her short stories have been published in a number of magazines, including The New Yorker and O: The Oprah Magazine. She has also been a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Orange Prize in England.
Strout’s appearance was part of the Sanibel Public Library’s Author Series. The Author Series 2010 also featured Jodi Picoult, Clive Cussler, Elizabeth Berg and Jane Hamilton.
