Fans urged to donate blood before Minnesota Twins game on Sunday

By Staff | Mar 17, 2010

Florida’s Blood Centers (FBC) has teamed up with the Minnesota Twins to hold a four-hour blood drive prior to the team’s “Minnesota Day” home spring training game in Fort Myers.

During the event, taking place on Sunday, March 21 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to tailgate prior to the game in a special area in the parking lot. We are challenging all Minnesota Twins fans to become local heroes and donate blood.

Two of FBC’s Big Red Buses will be on site at the Lee County Sports Complex (Hammond Stadium), located at 14100 Six Mile Cypress Pkwy. in Fort Myers, collecting blood to ensure that our local hospitals have a safe and reliable blood supply for those who need it most.

We are in urgent need of donations for all blood types. Just one donation can save three lives because it’s separated into components – red blood cells, plasma and platelets. Each donation will likely be transfused into a patient within 48 hours.

While supplies last, registered donors will receive a special edition “I Bleed Navy & Red” Minnesota Twins t-shirt, and a choice of a Twins baseball cap or a Twins baseball.

Every donation benefits someone in our community. Anyone eligible to donate is encouraged to call 1-888-9DONATE for questions about donating blood. Donors should be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 102 pounds. There is no upper age limit.
