PoetryFest 2010 coming to Sanibel Public Library

By Staff | Mar 15, 2010

Poets young and old, from Sanibel and Southwest Florida, will gather at the Sanibel Public Library on Wednesday, March 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. to celebrate National Poetry Month.

Sponsored by the Sanibel Public Library and the Sanibel Poets Society, the event will commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sanibel’s annual tribute to poetry.

Ten years ago, poet Marianne Strickland invited Sanibel’s poets to the Art Gallery – now known as Hirdie Girdle Gallery – to celebrate National Poetry Month. That

first celebration has grown into the Sanibel PoetryFest and will feature the following poets who will honor the muse by performing their poetry:

Jim Brock, Don Brown, Ray Buck, Carol Drummond, Vince Faraone, Sandy Greco, Tanya Hochschild, Bob Maxeiner, Russell Miller, Joe Pacheco, Katie Pankow,

Joyce Rand, Sid Simon, Lorraine Vail and Marianne Strickland, special guest poet and PoetryFest founder .

Members of the public are invited to participate by reading their own work or a favorite poem by other poets. A reception sponsored by the Sanibel Public Library and Sanibel Poets will follow the readings. Admission is free.
