Cape officials to support VVA fund raiser

By Staff | Mar 12, 2010

The Cape Coral Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America will hold a Saint Patrick’s Day Dinner & Dance fund raiser March 13 at 6 p.m. to provide free prepaid telephone cards to active-duty U.S. military personnel currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Cape Coral Mayor John L Sullivan along with City Councilmen (and military veterans) Peter Brandt, William Deile, and Chris Chulakes-Leetz, will conduct a meet-and-greet to welcome the attendees to this event.
U.S. soldiers serving overseas are required to pay for their own telephone expenses when calling home to family and friends, a cost that could easily average more than $10 for a 20-minute call. This VVA fund raiser will provide financial assistance to several U.S. Armed Forces members serving in the Middle East, by providing free prepaid telephone cards for these telephone calls.
Founded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America is the only national Vietnam veteran’s organization congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families. VVA is organized as a not-for-profit corporation and is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. VVA Chapter #594 is a nonprofit organization and is tax-exempt under section 501(c)3.
Direct Donations: Anyone wishing to directly contribute towards the purchase of prepaid telephone cards for active duty US military serving in the Middle East may drop off their donations payable to the VVA Chapter 594 at this event.
