Blue lights to show police support

By Staff | Feb 18, 2010

October 1, 1962, the United Stated Congress enacted National Police Week. The resolution authorized the president to proclaim May 15th of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls as Police Week. President John F. Kennedy made the first proclamation in 1963.

This year Police Memorial week is May 9-15. The Cape Coral Citizens Police Academy Alumni are urging Cape Coral residents to burn blue light bulbs in their outdoor lights during that week, and as a service to the community are making blue light bulbs available for $2.00 each.

Contact Ron & Betty Brusius (239) 549-6474 rbrusius@comcast.net about where to obtain the blue light bulbs.
