Police Chief issues ‘Heavy Traffic Advisory’ for this weekend
On Tuesday, Sanibel Chief of Police Bill Tomlinson issued a “Heavy Traffic Advisory” for this weekend, Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14.
In addition to both Valentine’s Day and President’s Day falling on the same weekend, two special events will be held on Periwinkle Way this upcoming weekend.
Heavy traffic is anticipated along Periwinkle Way – from Casa Ybel Road to Tarpon Bay Road – due to the following events:
The 27th Annual Rotary Club Arts & Crafts Fair, held at the Sanibel Community Association (2173 Periwinkle Way) on Saturday and Sunday.
The Farmer’s Market, being held at Tahitian Gardens (1975 Periwinkle Way) on Sunday.
Tomlinson also reminded residents that the City of Sanibel is a walkable and bikeable community and features one of the most extensive shared use paths in the State of Florida. The chief urges attendees to these special events are to walk or bicycle if feasible. Motorists not attending these events are strongly urged to utilize alternate routes this weekend.
Additionally, Tomlinson reminded Sanibel motorists to be especially alert for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the roadway in the area of the events and should expect delays. Please plan your travel for this weekend accordingly.
