Relay For Life team dubbed Sanibel Captiva Fighting Conch

By Staff | Feb 4, 2010

The Sanibel Captiva Relay For Life Committee is still an active group of dedicated islanders raising money to find a cure for cancer and to help the American Cancer Society.

In past years, much of our time and energy was consumed by organizing and administering the Relay itself here on Sanibel. After much discussion and consideration, the Committee concluded it might be more effective in achieving the ACS major objective – raising money – by participating in the Fort Myers Relay For Life event as the “Sanibel-Captiva Relay For Life Team,” known as Sanibel Captiva Fighting Conch.

In so doing, we can redirect the time and energy previously required to establish our own relay event and focus 100 percent of these efforts to achieving greater fund raising results. To date, a few successful fundraising events have already been held on the Island and others are scheduled to follow.

The Fort Myers event is Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24, at the Lee County Sports Complex. Our team is known as the Sanibel Captiva Fighting Conch. Please go online to http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=21075&pg=teamlist to sign up. Sanibel’s own Doc Fords is the presenting sponsor this year in Fort Myers.

Come join us for a new level of excitement by participating in the Sanibel Captiva Relay For Life Team in the Fort Myers Relay For Life event. Meetings are held monthly at The Bank of the Islands at 6 p.m. Meeting dates are Feb. 22, March 29 and April 19.
