Three teens charged in burglary of Marine’s home
Three Lehigh Acres teens have been charged with burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief in connection with the burglary of the home of a Marine deployed to Iraq.
Louis A. Estrada , 15, of 2914 6th Street SW; Brian Dufrane, of, of 2902 8TH Street SW and Kevin Robin Suarez, 14, of 2815 1st Street SW. were arrested Tuesday.
Each youth was charged with burglary, grand theft over $300, and criminal mischief over $1000, officials with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
The investigation began Thursday, Jan. 21, after deputies responded to a report of a past-occurred burglary at 2914 2nd Street SW, Lehigh Acres. Deputies spoke with Nancy Gonzalez, the mother of the homeowner, Steven Vonsoosten.
Gonzalez told investigators her son is currently deployed with the U.S. Marine Corp in Iraq and she checks the home periodically. She told them she discovered the residence open with all the appliances missing, several broken windows, and two large porch screens cut.
Sheriff Mike Scott attended an event on Pine Island on Monday where he received information related to this case from an anonymous source. The information named individuals who may have had some involvement in the burglary and vandalism to the Lehigh Acres home of the soldier. The unnamed source had seen the story on TV. Scott immediately forwarded this information to the Bravo (East) District Criminal Investigations Unit that encompasses Lehigh Acres.
District detectives continued their investigation of the incident Tuesday by following up on the information provided by the sheriff, resulting in the arrest of the three juveniles, officials said.
Detectives were able to recover several of the victim’s personal items including some Chevrolet Camaro reference books, a jacket, and a Chinese style knife, officials added.
