Lions Club of Sanibel and Captiva gives to Haiti

By Staff | Jan 26, 2010

Local club president Tom Rothman and two of his fellow Lions present the check to the Haiti Relief Fund for $2,000 earlier this week.

Lions Club International and Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) are working together to provide relief and hope for the people of Haiti.

Following the devastating earthquakes, Lions around the world have responded generously and quickly to the Lions’ fund. Lions in China have given $20,000: Lions from Ontario have established a medical clinic in Haiti and so far treated 600 people: Lions in Sweden are sending large tents to house the homeless.

On Monday, the Lions Club of Sanibel and Captiva donated $2,000 from cash raised by members to the Haitian disaster fund.

“We wanted to move quickly to help the people of Haiti recover from this appalling disaster” said Lions President Tom Rothman. “We have an emergency fund, raised by members, for just such events and our board decided to make an immediate grant.”

Anyone can donate to the Lions Club Hope for Haiti Fund. One hundred percent of every donation will go directly to Haiti as Lions administrative costs are paid by interest earned on past investments.

Donations can be made using any one of three options:

Donate online at www.lcif.org/donate. Select Disaster and include “LCIF Haiti Earthquake Relief” in the comments section.

Make a credit card donation with a MasterCard, Visa or American Express. Fax the following information to LCIF: name, address, phone number, credit card type, credit card number, expiration date, and amount of the donation. If you are a Lions member, please provide your clubs information. LCIF’s fax number is 630-571-5735.

Mail a check to LCIF. Make the check payable to Lions Club International Foundation, noting “LCIF Haiti Earthquake Relief” in the memo field. Please send the check to LCIF, 300 W. 22nd St., Oak Brook, IL 60523 USA, Attn: Donor Services.
