Accident snarls traffic heading towards Sanibel

By Staff | Jan 22, 2010

On Friday morning, a vehicular accident involving a single car and a gasoline tanker truck left commuter traffic heading towards the Sanibel Toll Plaza at a standstill for more than 30 minutes.

The accident, reported at 9:17 a.m., occurred on McGregor Boulevard in South Fort Myers, just south of the entrance to the Shell Point Retirement Community.

Lee County Sheriff’s Department officers diverted traffic away from the scene, shutting off access to Sanibel temporarily. After emergency crews attended to victims involved in the accident and made sure the roadway was safe for traffic, access was restored to McGregor Boulevard.

An incident report from the LCSO is pending.
