Gail White

Gail (Johnson) White passed away on Dec. 3, 2009 after a five-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 69.

Gail was born in Minnesota, the daughter of O. William and Caroline Johnson, and lived on Sanibel for many years before moving to Roswell, Ga. in 1999. An honors graduate of the University of Minnesota in elementary education and art, she was a successful educator who ran a Sylvan Learning Center in Georgia for a short time, helping youngsters learn to improve their reading and other skills.

When her children were still young, Gail moved her family to Sanibel where she owned and managed a number of very successful businesses over the years. Her personal favorite and longest-lasting shop was The Olde House Shoppe, which became very well known for its elegant ladies clothing and wonderful service.

In addition, she was a great supporter of the arts as well as an accomplished artist.

She is survived by her children, Christopher Stone and Melanie Salcedo, and her grandchildren, Sofie, Maymay and Kai, along with her husband of eight years, Mike Stone. She is also survived by her sisters, Catherine Hallberg and Carol Fackler and their families.

A memorial service was held in Roswell, Ga.
