Update on Dog Park talks

By Staff | Jan 13, 2010

Dog Club members and interested parties,

As a result of the overwhelming support at last week’s open meeting, the officers of the Dog Club met with city officials to review our interest in the Sanibel Community Park location. The following points are key relative to our current dog park development process:

The meeting on Jan. 5 was held to determine if there was enough interest to go forward with the process. There was overwhelming support and the Club garnered many new members.

As stated in that meeting, there was no previous discussion with city officials or council members regarding the city park site. Subsequent to the meeting, we met with City Manager Judith Zimomra and other key department heads regarding the city park location, a dog park in general, and the process going forward relative to both potential public and private sites. Although it is unlikely the city park site would meet our collective requirements, we were encouraged to continue our search and given guidance on our process.

The officers will continue the search of potential sites, both public and private.

Shortly, we will communicate to all new and existing members, the date and time of our next official Dog Club meeting.

Thanks for your patience as we continue the process. Again, you’ll hear from us soon on the next meeting date.

Harvey, Jason and Laurie

Officers, Sanibel Dog Club, Inc.
