Island Seniors celebrate the season with a festive potluck

By Staff | Dec 21, 2009

The Sanibel Island Seniors Progam held its annual Christmas dinner and program on Dec. 16. Following the potluck dinner, the attendees were treated to a very special presentation.

Straight from Hollywood, this year’s Masters of Ceremonies were “Pat Sajack” (played by John Brown) and “Vanna White” (played by Ann Bresslau). They hosted a “Top Ten Christmas Carol” program in which the audience was given a brief history of each of the songs. Included in this history were clues to help identify the song. Once someone guessed the song, they came forward and led the audience in singing that song. Everyone participated and the excitement grew as the Number One song approached.

The Top 10 List, as selected by the hosts, was as follows:

10 – O Little Town of Bethlehem

9 – Rudolph, The Red Nose Reindeer

8 – We Wish You A Merry Christmas

7 – Away In A Manger

6 – Joy To The World

5 – The Twelve Days of Christmas

4 – Jingle Bells

3 – O Come, All Ye Faithful

2 – White Christmas

1 – Silent Night

One of the attendees, Maureen Hnatow, described the evening as “Perfect – a combination of humor, fun, holiday observance and community.”

Sandi McDougall, Island Seniors Program Administrator, once again initiated a creative program to continue enriching the lives of adults. The next potluck dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27 starting at 5:30 p.m.
