Marjory Addison Snell

Dec 10, 2009

Marjory (Marny) Snell passed away on Dec. 5, 2009. She was 94.

She had lived a long, full and wonderful life. Born in Toronto, Ontario, she raised her family with her husband, Dr. H. Arthur Snell in Schnectady, N.Y. For many years, they spent winters in Fort Myers and Sanibel and their summers on Sacandaga Lake, N.Y.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She has been an inspiration and the backbone of a family that includes six children, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her children are Dick & Sheridan Snell of Sanibel; Glenna & Chet Brodnicki of West Hartford, Ct.; Heather & Loren Grimm of Rexford, N.Y.; Jim & Caren Snell of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Steve Snell of Augusta, Me.; and Rob & Kathleen Snell of Ellicott City, Md.

Marny was the first female member of the Grace Lutheran Church Council, president of the Ellis Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and president of the Caduceus Garden Club. Her life was full of athleticism – playing tennis and golf into her 80s, swimming and waterskiing (into her 60s) and leading a two-time National Curling Championship team. She was a fine competitor who always displayed great sportsmanship.

During her summers in the Adirondacks, her time was spent enjoying family and friends, golfing, swimming, reading and entertaining. Her cooking, her stories and her hospitality made every gathering with family and friends an event to remember. The lake house was always filled with laughter and children playing along with dogs.

Marny Snell was a wonderful, caring, warm and loving person who will be greatly missed by all who have been fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to CROW (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife), P.O. Box 150, Sanibel, FL 33957 or to the charity of your choice.
