Island Realtor conducts ‘green’ survey

By Staff | Dec 2, 2009

Sanibel Realtor Sarah Ashton of Royal Shell Preferred Properties has surveyed potential buyers and sellers of island properties to understand better the importance of “green” features to both sides of a sale.

The survey looked at features such EnergyStar appliances, low-flow plumbing, solar hot water heating and native plantings.

“The results are extremely useful to sellers,” said Ashton. “Buyers definitely want some green features and are prepared to pay for them, yet sellers are not providing them as frequently as they might.”

Ashton earned her National Association of Realtors (NAR) “Green Designation” in May 2009. She advises her clients on how to improve their chances of a quick and more profitable sale by reviewing how they can make their homes greener and which features are likely to provide the biggest payback.
