Monday at approximately 4:46 p.m., deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Fifth-Third Bank, located at the 13581 Golden Wood Drive, Fort Myers, in reference to an armed robbery of a Brinks’ truck.
According to a report issued by the LCSO, when deputies arrived at the scene they learned two Brinks’ employees were reportedly robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot by two Hispanic male suspects.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Robbery Unit assumed the investigation.
Detectives met with the victim and witnesses to the incident. They determined the suspects removed an undisclosed amount of money from the truck. The suspects then fled the scene in an older model red Grand Prix or Grand-Am, reports indicate.
According to deputies, the suspects are described as having light colored skin, in their 20s, 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10 in height, weighing 160 to 170 pounds, with regular length black hair.
The suspects never entered the bank.
During the commission of the crime, deputies indicated that one of the suspects struck one of the Brinks’ employees over the head with a firearm. That employee was transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
No other injuries occurred during the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this violent robbery is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 477-1000, or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
