Sanibel Softball League: Bailey’s Baggers take a bite out of Great White

By Staff | Nov 4, 2009

Week five of the Sanibel Softball League had some pivotal games. In what proved to be the game of the week, Bailey’s Bagger’s took a bite out of the Great White Grill in a stunning victory.

Deadeye Deb Gleason, who has the best batting average of Bailey’s, commented, “We gave them a Great White whipping.” And she wasn’t exaggerating.

At one point, Bailey’s led the game 18-8 when the Great White – led by their fearless leader “Shoeless” Joe Ramsey – scored eight runs to make the game 18-16. In the end it wasn’t enough, as Bailey’s took the victory 21-16.

The other games were equally exciting. Sanctuary Island Electric sparked up the crowd with their dazzling performance to beat All Island Glass, 12-9. All Island Glass made a last minute surge against Sanctuary Electric… but it was too little, too late.

In the other big matchup of the night, the top two ranked teams faced off to see who would be leading the league half way through the season. The Beachview Rec’N’Crew hit a hole-in-one with a stunning 22-7 victory against the Aztec Plumbing Warriors.

Aztec Plumbing teammate Steve Taub commented, “Our game went down the drain tonight.”

The Sanibel Adult Softball League plays every Wednesday night at the Sanibel Ball Fields. For more information, contact the Rec Center by calling 472-0345.
