Halloween ‘Verification Operation’ shows sex offenders in compliance with holiday regs

By Staff | Nov 1, 2009

Members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Predator/Offender Unit, Cape Coral Police Department, Fort Myers Police Department and State Probation Office conducted a Halloween operation Saturday aimed at verifying that sexual offenders on probation in Lee County were in compliance with the terms of their probation.
The sex offenders in question were ordered not to pass out candy, turn off their outside lights and were prohibited from displaying Halloween decorations while children were “trick or treating” on Halloween night. The check verified compliance on the part of those so ordered, officials said Sunday.
As part of the operation, investigators conducted checks on 129 individuals throughout the county. For many of these individuals, multiple compliance checks were conducted throughout the evening. In all, a total of 222 compliance checks were conducted. The nature of these verifications included making direct contact with the offenders and driving past their residences multiple times throughout the night.
No arrests were made as all 129 offenders were in compliance, officials said.
