Airport reports September traffic

During the month of September, 359,743 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 9.6 percent compared to September 2008. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is down 2.5 percent over the same period last year.

The traffic leader in September was Delta with 57,942 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (57,262), AirTran (51,341), JetBlue (41,642) and US Airways (39,166).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,612 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 7.6 percent compared to September 2008. Page Field General Aviation Airport saw 5,511 movements, a 21.1 percent increase from September 2008.

In addition, nearly 2.8 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in September 2009.

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.6 million passengers in 2008 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction.
