Osinski awarded Next Generation Scholarship from SCC

By Staff | Oct 1, 2009

The Sanibel Community Church Trustees Next Generation Scholarship Fund awarded its first grant this year to Stephen Osinski, the grandson of Community Church members Arlene and Franklin Dentz.

Osinski graduated this spring with a 92.5 GPA in the top 20 percent of his class from the Somerville High School in New Jersey, where he lives with his mother. He also spends part of the year with his grandparents in Sanibel.

Stephen completed honors courses in school and participated in many activities such as the choir, band, drama, youth bowling league and other activities. His community service has included the CROP Walk For Hunger, blood donor and community clean-up projects.

Osinski’s recommendations from his church pastor in Somerville and from others indicate that he is very active in his church, and has a commitment to serve Christ and community with a positive and joyful spirit. One youth pastor wrote that he was confident that “Stephen would be a blessing for Christ and others as he begins his journey into college and career.”

The teen has had an interest in meteorology and weather studies since he was very young. This has led to the opportunity to fulfill his dream of studying for a career in this field at Rutgers University, where he has begun his freshman year.

As he wrote in his application statement, ” I am confident that the Lord will help me weather all the storms in my life and I will always follow the Lord’s teachings asking for His guidance in every step of my life.”

The Trustees at Sanibel Community Church are proud to award a scholarship to Stephen and wish him every success in his future study and career.

Alpha explores ‘Who is Jesus?’ at SCC

In a 10-week course to be offered at Sanibel Community Church, participants will take a hard look at the facts regarding Jesus Christ. The course will also deal with the subjects of the reliability of Scripture, healing today, resistance of evil and the work of the Holy Spirit today.

On Sunday evening, Oct. 11 starting at 5 p.m. there will be an introductory banquet at which individuals will decide if they want to take the course. The topic at the banquet will be “Christianity: Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?” The banquet is free, with child care provided. Please call the church to make a reservation at 472-2684.

The Alpha Course is a video course that was produced in England with the Reverend Nicky Gumble as the presenter. In his delightful mannerism, he deals candidly with relevant issues of life. Millions participate in the course each year all around the world.

Sanibel Community Church is located at 1740 Periwinkle Way (next to Jerry’s Market).
