Aztec Warriors scalp Sanctuary Island Electric

By Staff | Sep 8, 2009

Last Wednesday was opening night for the new fall Adult Softball League. The game of the week was the Aztec Warriors versus the Sanctuary Island Electric.

Sponsored by Aztec Plumbing, the Warriors came into the game feeling like kings of the porcelain throne. Sanctuary Island Electric, however, had some high voltage feelings of their own.

The game was low scoring – a testament to both teams’ defensive prowess. Entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Aztec Warriors had managed to climb up a pyramid of runs, scoring 10 to Sanctuary Electric’s five.

With one last surge, Sanctuary Island Electric scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh before they browned out – just shy by the one run needed to keep the game going. Final score: Aztec Warriors 10, Sanctuary Island Electric 9.

After the game, Aztec war-chief Mike Fuchs said to Sanctuary Electric’s captain, “Let us bury the hatchet between us.” Now that’s what we call sportsmanship!

In the other games played last week, the Bailey’s Baggers shattered All Island Glass in solid win 13-9 and the Beachview Rec N Crew turned off the Great White Grill’s propane tank in a 17-5 victory.

The Sanibel Adult Softball League plays every Wednesday night at the Sanibel Ball Fields. For more information, contact the Rec Center at 472-0345.
