Police: Cape man charged after sexually abusing child for years

By Staff | Sep 4, 2009

A 36-year-old Cape Coral man is accused of sexually assaulting a child over the course of several years, beginning when the victim was 7 years old.
Victor Criollo was charged Wednesday with sexual battery of a victim under 12 years of age after the victim told investigators that Criollo had sexually assaulted the victim “a lot” and “all the time” since 2003, according to reports.
Criollo, a 5-foot 4-inch, 150-pound man, would touch the victim inappropriately when the two were alone in various locations, the last time being about three or four weeks prior, the victim told police.
During a police interview with Criollo, who was in the Lee County Jail for a prior domestic violence charge, Criollo reportedly admitted to the inappropriate acts, saying he would accept his punishment and that he needed help.
Criollo said he knew the acts were illegal and wrong, but that he would “succumb” when he tried to stop.
Criollo remained in the Lee County Jail Thursday evening without bond, according to booking records.
