Free blood pressure screening at Rec Center

By Staff | Sep 3, 2009

A complimentary blood pressure screening will take place on Monday, Sept. 7 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sanibel Recreation Center. Screenings are held on the first Monday of every month.

According to the American Heart Association, about one in three U.S. adults have high blood pressure, and most are unaware of the condition. High blood pressure increases the risk of stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease and even blindness in some cases.

The Sanibel Fire District’s complimentary screenings are offered as a first step in determining if further examination by a health care professional is necessary.

The Sanibel Recreation Center is located at 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road. Daily, weekly, semi-annual and annual memberships are available. For more information, call the Rec Center at 472-0345 or visit their Web site at www.mysanibel.com.
